Welcome to Soph talks travel!

I’m Soph and I’m a scientific content creator with a serious case of wanderlust!

I have had a love of writing and an urge to travel and explore for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately though, I have never given myself the opportunity to really embrace travelling. Between a lack of money, a commitment to studying at university and then doing a PhD, anxiety and just the small thing of a global pandemic, I never made it a priority despite constant daydreaming and scrolling for inspiration on Instagram.

At the end of 2021, I turned 30 and took some time to reflect on what I really want to do while I have the chance. And that is to get out there, explore the world, meet new people, learn new things, experiences new smells and flavours and document my time doing that, sharing tips and experiences and capturing moments that I can relive over again!

I haven’t travelled that far or wide (yet!), but I hope you will grab your virtual passport and come and see the world with me!

About this blog

In 2022, I decided to delete everything that was on my pre-existing travel blog and start again!

The old Soph talks travel basically existed as an online travel diary for myself. Another place to store and share some of the photos I had taken. I had watched ‘Eat. Pray. Love‘ back in 2015 and there was one scene that inspired me to finally put pen to paper and write a travel blog! If you haven’t seen it – there is one scene where Julia Roberts is sat having dinner al fresco in the beautiful city of Rome with some pals she had made during her stay. They set themselves a challenge to summarise the city in one word. New York was labelled as Ambition, for example. This got me thinking. This was the perfect way to write my blog posts. Travel and explore. Return home and have time to contemplate what that place meant to me. Summarise my trip in one word. Then finally share it as my blog post!

This was how I shared my blog posts. A title of two simple words – the place and my one word summation. A simple and succinct way of telling you about my experience. Now I still want to include this. I love trying to summarise a whole experience in a word and really think about what each trip meant to me. But I’ve given them a bit of a facelift. A new name. A new identity as I start this revitalised Soph talks travel blog and give myself the chance to immerse myself in the feeling of writing.
